Wedding Bells ~
Richard married Anne Carlton shortly after both finished college. Then Richard completed his theological education at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA |
First Baby ~
Richard Jr. was born just before Richard and Anne moved to Florida, where he became Assistant Pastor at First Methodist Church of Orlando. |
Moving to Miami ~
Richard wore a white suit to preach in Miami, a custom of Florida preachers to show that it is always summer in Miami. Besides Richard, Jr., there were two daughters, Carol Ann and Emily. |

Tragedy During the Appointment
in Tampa ~
Richard, Jr. who preferred to be called Rick, dived off a fishing pier into the Gulf of Mexico and broke his neck. Initially, paralyzed from the neck down, he spent a year in the hospital, usually occupying a Stryker frame. |
Enjoying His Granddaughter ~
Reading to Katie, Emily's daughter, was a favorite activity for Dick. As she grew older, they vied with one another by telling imaginative stories. |
A Trip to Hawaii for the Whole Family ~
Dick and Rick enjoyed the Dole Pineapple Plantation. We were sad when Rick died four years later. |
